

Refit and Annual Maintenance
Ocean Jewel was purchased in Brisbane during April of 2007. She was in a state of considerable disrepair. By August of 2008 a complete refit in New Zealand had been completed on all major systems. She is now in near new condition.












Refit Details:

Ocean Jewel's refit was accomplished in Nelson, New Zealand between December 2007 and August 2008. All major systems on Jewel were changed or upgraded; all electrical wiring was removed and upgraded, all plumbing was removed and upgraded, the galley was gutted and upgraded with new cabinets, 4 burner cooker, refrigeration (one refrigerator and two freezers), microwave, dishwasher, cloths washer and dryer; the engine room was gutted and upgraded with a new John Deere 6068 engine, Northern Lights 10Kw generator, Water Witch 100 Litre/hr water maker and Webesto diesel heater. A 48VDC Side Power Bow Thruster was also installed. An all new Furuno instrument package was installed including Radar, Chart Plotter, Depth and wind instruments, AIS and GPS. For Communications an ICOM SSB, two ICOM VHFs, ICOM sat phone and Iridium Go were installed. For entertainment a 42" Samsung flat screen TV and Fusion Stereo were installed.

Ocean Jewel's rigging has also been upgraded.. The masts and booms were removed and inspected by two different rigging professionals and found to be in very good condition. Chain plates were removed, x-rayed and inspected. Shrouds were replaced, new sails from Doyle were added and all winches were replaced with new Andersen winches (3 are motorized).

Annual Maintenance:
August 2009 - Present.
Every year Ocean Jewel is hauled out for hull and rigging inspections, new anodes, prop speed and antifoul. Maintenance schedules are maintained in accordance with New Zealand Maritime's Maritime Operator Safety System (MOSS).

Most recently Ocean Jewel was hauled out in June 2022 for hull and rigging inspections, anode change, through hull inspections, prop speed and antifoul. All jobs were completed to the highest standards and inspections revealed no issues.
